Bindis are part of the Indian culture and all these white girls wear them on their forehead and their eyebrows because it looks “tumblr,” or “boho,” or “indie”, go ahead, as long as you know what it stands for. It’s part of the desi culture not for coachella concerts or shit like that. We wear them when we wear Punjabi suits or saris or lengha cholis or a salwar kameez, not because we think it looks cool, but because it’s part of our culture. Or when you want to do color runs, remember that the idea is from our special holiday, Holi. These rip off metalic tattoos looks extremely similar to the mendhi designs we wear on our hands and feet when we have to go to special occasions. So cute and hippie, right? You can like it all you want, wear it all you want, I like those metallic tattoos too, but remember where the original idea is from. It’s absolutely fine if you want to do and wear that stuff, go ahead, in fact it’s amazing that you want to be part of our culture. It’s okay if you wear that stuff, but what’s not okay is when you do all that stuff and STILL make fun of Indians. When white girls wear bindis and make fun of Indians who wear bindis and their ethnic clothing. It’s acceptable for you to go out wearing a bindi, but when I do, I get made fun of, and that’s not okay at all. Or when you make fun of Indians for their accents for sounding weird and funny but at the same time you fawn over European accents. Or cover your nose when you walk past Indian stalls because somehow the smell of spices disturbs you? It’s not okay to call us terrorists when at the same time you fucking worship Zayn Malik. who are no different than us. So in the most kindest way possible, fuck you, for trying to act superior and trying to teach us that certain things in the culture we have been brought up in are BOHO or INDIE or TUMBLR MATERIAL are deemed acceptable in society and the other part of our culture and ethnicity is DISGUSTING and SMELLY and WEIRD. You either accept the whole of our beautiful culture as it is, or you don’t dare adopt a single part of it, bitch.
